What is SkinFlint Outdoors

What is SkinFlint Outdoors? Where did it come from? What’s the point?  In a nuthouse, it is a brain-child of a man who has seen a different side of life. SkinFlint Outdoors is for the wannabe. It is a concept for sharing information and ideas for cheap living and cheap play. Nobody ever wrote a law that said you can’t enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, shooting, boating, cooking, dining or anything else simply because you don’t have a big budget. It’s all about the people who dream big and push hard to make their dreams a reality.

Some time ago, being in a stable situation in which I would’ve been able to be a part of making life better for, and with, my family, I had little to no regard for certain factors in my own environment. Then, without warning, I was removed from all that stability and manipulated into a harsher situation. The very family I had trusted so had forsaken little old me in the name of higher profits. Such was the circumstances surrounding my move to middle Georgia.

Never mind the details of that. They are of little consequence at this point, and my dear estranged family would only sugarcoat the particulars. Suddenly finding myself in a situation in which I better understood my long gone father, I struggled on to gain a foothold in a place that was utterly foreign to me, and was determined to make the most of it all. There were times I went to work with an eighth of a tank of gas and I had to stay in my car until my paycheck would hit the bank so I’d have the gas to get home. But I still showed up and still pushed to make anything I could.

There was ceaseless criticism from what family I had left, and still more criticism from the people who ran the establishments I worked in. One day I heard a preacher say “You can only serve on Master.” The dear man obviously never worked where I worked under the circumstances I was working under. For years I kept on, all the way meeting people and watching. I saw everything and watched everyone. I came to know the dirty little secrets all over the land.

So, what is a SkinFlint? These are the people who will stretch a buck wherever they can. There are the people who will decide not to buy a case of beer so they have the extra money to take their kids fishing. These are the folks who live with their budget and find creative ways to have everything they need. These are the people who live cheaply so they can do more than live for the company. These are the people who leave a job and burn their old uniform shirts as a means to protest the control people want to have over them. These are the people who want a good life, and are willing to sacrifice to make it happen, from the guy flipping eggs at the Waffle House all hours of the day and night to the construction worker hanging on a beam five stories off the ground.

Then what is SkinFlint Outdoors? To round it out, it’s what happens when a couple of guys take their cameras fishing. It’s there to show you don’t need all the fancy stuff to have a good time.  We work on a budget, both a monetary one and a chronological one, yet have that love of the outdoors. There is no set theme geared to sell a product. There are no sponsors. Just a series of essays and videos sharing some tips we’ve picked up along the way. All that can be said is everyone deserves a life filled with happiness. Humans aren’t made to suffer and if this project inspires one person find a little happiness, even for part of a day, then the operation was success. Enjoy
